Where Norwegian citizens can apply for eTA
An eTA is not a visa, but a travel authorization that is linked to the traveler’s passport. The eTA process usually takes only a few minutes, and once approved, the document is linked to your passport. 24 countries allow entry with an electronic authorization for a stay of up to 90 days.

What you need to know before leaving
Norwegian passport holders have access to 88% of the world's destinations. However, it is important to keep in mind:
- From May 2025, the Entry/Exit System (EES) will be introduced, automatically recording entry/exit dates and replacing stamps in the passport. For Norwegian citizens, as members of the Schengen Area, the system will simplify control over compliance with the 90/180-day stay limit. At the same time, ETIAS will become mandatory for citizens of 60+ countries, but Norwegians do not need it, since they are part of the EEA.
- To visit the USA, you need an ESTA (valid for 2 years), and to Canada – an eTA (5 years).
- Great Britain – from April 2025, an ETA will be introduced, valid for 2 years.
- Russia – entry is allowed only with business invitations or to visit close relatives
Despite high mobility, Norwegian travelers should take into account the new electronic systems (EES), visa requirements for Russia and restrictions in the Middle East.
