Map of visa-free countries for Spanish citizens in 2025
A Spanish passport opens the door to more than 190 countries without the need for a visa. Global Relocate's interactive map shows the time of stay and entry details. In this material you will find up-to-date information on destinations with comments from a visa expert.
Where Spanish citizens can apply for an eTA
It is important to note that an eTA is not a visa, but a travel authorization that is linked to the traveler's passport. This avoids the lengthy procedures associated with traditional visas. The process of obtaining an eTA usually takes only a few minutes and once approved, the document is linked to your passport.
List of countries with eTA
What you need to know before you leave
- The UK requires an electronic authorization (ETA) after Brexit. From April 2, 2025, Spanish citizens will be required to obtain an ETA before traveling to the country. The application can be made online from March 5, 2025, the cost will be around 12 euros and the permit will be valid for two years or until the expiration of the passport.
- Canada has introduced similar requirements from 2024: Spanish citizens will need to obtain an eTA for transit or short-term travel.
- A number of countries have a rule of mandatory registration at the place of stay. For example, in Thailand, a hotel will automatically register you, but when renting accommodation through Airbnb, you need to submit the notification yourself.
- Most Schengen countries have a 90/180 rule for Spaniards (maximum 90 days within 180 days), but in Georgia, for example, you can stay up to 360 days without a visa.
Some countries require additional documents:
1. Spanish citizens must obtain an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) to enter the United States.
2. Spanish citizens can legally reside in Argentina without a visa for up to 90 days, but they have the unique privilege of being able to obtain an Argentine Identity Card (DNI) for longer stays, thanks to special agreements between the countries.
3. Spanish citizens need a visa to travel to China, but there is an alternative - a 144-hour visa-free transit. This allows you to visit major cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, etc.) if you have a flight ticket to a third country.
4. For Spanish citizens, a visa to Australia is processed online through the eVisitor program (free of charge, valid for 12 months). However, Australia is known for its strict rules on importing products - even a small mistake in the declaration can result in a fine of up to AU$2,664.
