What you need to know before leaving

Key visa-free destinations include:

• Schengen area (90 days within a 180-day period).
• United Kingdom (up to 6 months for tourism).
• Japan (90 days for short-term visits).
• Brazil (90 days within 180 days).
• Argentina allows stays of up to 90 days.

68 countries (including Germany, France and South Korea) allow participation in negotiations, conferences and signing contracts without obtaining work permits. The maximum stay is 90 days per year.

A number of countries require proof of solvency:

• Schengen area: 60 EUR per day of stay.
• Thailand: 20,000 THB (≈$600) per person or 40,000 THB per family.
• UAE: The requirement varies from AED 2,000 to AED 5,000 (≈$545–1,360) depending on the emirate.

For citizens over 70, 23 countries (including Russia and India) require a policy with coverage of at least $50,000. In Chile and Argentina, insurance is mandatory for all tourists.

Countries with visa barriers:

• Russia: 16-day electronic visa.
• Cuba: Tourist card (Tarjeta del Turista). Issued through the airline.
• Central African Republic: An invitation from a local tour operator and a military escort are required.
