Where Latvian citizens can apply for eTA
The eTA is not a visa, but a travel authorization that is linked to the traveler’s passport. The eTA process usually takes only a few minutes, and once approved, the document is linked to your passport. 25 countries allow Latvians to enter with an electronic permit for up to 90 days.

What you need to know before leaving
Latvian citizens have the right to unlimited residence in the EU, but when traveling to third countries they must take into account:
- A visa is required to visit Russia (except for persons with special status);
- Australia and Canada require electronic permits (eVisitor/eTA);
- The ESTA system is in effect in the USA;
- When visiting Schengen countries, proof of €60 per day of stay is required.
From 2 April 2025, an electronic ETA will be required to visit the UK.
For 93% of countries, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry. Exceptions:
- Mexico and Canada – sufficient period at the time of travel;
- UK – 3 months after departure.
Foreigners traveling through Latvia to third countries must obtain a transit visa of category A if they do not have a valid Schengen visa. For citizens of the Russian Federation, transit is permitted only if they have a ticket to the final destination and a visa for the country of destination.
