As EU members, Lithuanian citizens have the right to freely reside and work in the Eurozone countries. Since 2008, the US has had a Visa Waiver Program, which allows a visa-free stay of up to 90 days, provided that:
- A biometric passport is obtained after 28 August 2006;
- A preliminary electronic travel authorisation (ESTA) is obtained. In 2024, over 60% of Lithuanian tourists used ESTA to visit the US.
A special visa-free regime is in effect with the Republic of Belarus until 31 December 2025. It provides for a 90-day visa-free stay, but with mandatory registration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The introduction of biometric passports in Lithuania in 2006 reduced the number of border crossing refusals by 40%. It is predicted that by 2026, thanks to new agreements with ASEAN countries, the Lithuanian passport will be among the top 5 in terms of freedom of movement.
