Where can UK citizens apply for an eTA
An eTA is not a visa, but a travel authorisation that is linked to the traveller’s passport. The eTA process usually takes just a few minutes and once approved, the document is linked to your passport. 25 countries allow Britons to enter with an eTA for up to 90 days.

What you need to know before leaving
The British passport remains one of the most powerful in the world, but from 2025 new rules will require you to pay attention to your upcoming trips. The key change is the introduction of Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for entry into the UK. From 2 April 2025, this requirement applies to citizens of the EU and other visa-free countries, including the US and Canada. An ETA costs £10, is valid for 2 years and allows you to stay in the country for up to 6 months per visit.
From 8 January 2025, even transit through the UK will require an ETA. The exceptions are citizens of the UK and Ireland, as well as holders of valid visas.
