Ireland has moved to apply simplified application rules for both employees and employers. According to RTE, one of the key innovations allows some categories of foreign employees to change their superiors 9 months after obtaining a license.
Announcing the news, Irish Minister of Business, Trade and Employment Peter Berg stressed that the changes are designed to strengthen the protection of the legitimate interests of employees and retain the staff available on the island.
What innovations are provided for in the regulations
To meet the demand for labour in certain sectors, such as agricultural work, Ireland has introduced a new seasonal work permit. It is intended for those who intend to work in the country only for short periods, for example, during the harvest season.
These amendments are expected to have a significant positive impact on the foreign workforce and companies that require hired employees, especially during peak periods.
Another important innovation concerns the possibility of career growth for holders of a work visa: now they will be able to advance in the service without having to apply for a new permit.
Allocation of quotas in the home care and line service sectors
According to RTE, 500 work permits have been allocated to the elderly care sector as part of the new measures. There is also a quota of 250 permits for line service workers (for example, in the energy sector).
Emer Higgins, Minister of State for Business, Employment and Trade, stressed that the country needs to actively attract foreign personnel in order not to exacerbate the shortage of labor in the country.
