India starts issuing free tourist visas

India fascinates travelers with the atmosphere of ancient cities, where the aromas of spices and the sounds of life create magic. The secrets of ancient teachings and rituals still live in the hearts of local residents, and spiritual practices and yoga are an everyday reality. Tourists walk through colorful bazaars, explore magnificent ashrams and enjoy vibrant festivals. The country's special wealth is its nature: from the majestic Himalayas to the picturesque beaches of Goa.

Tourist visa

It is provided to foreigners on the condition that they will not have registration and permanent place of work in India. As a rule, staying in an organized group is limited to 30 days. However, on an individual basis, you can request a residence permit for up to 1 or 5 years, but staying in the country should not exceed 90 consecutive days per visit.

Migrants who have entered India on a tourist visa do not have the right to work or do business, as this violates migration rules. To apply for a visa, you must have medical insurance valid for the entire period of stay in the country.

Free visas for tourists

The Indian government plans to boost inbound tourism by providing travelers with visas for free. These permits will be available to 100,000 people. It should be borne in mind that in order to get such an opportunity, it is necessary to have an Indian friend living abroad.

The program, called «Chalo India» («Forward, India»), allows Indians to invite up to 5 foreign friends. ‎

To become a participant, you need to register on a special website, which will open soon, and enter the personal information of your friends. After verification, invited tourists will receive a kewar code by e-mail, which will give them the opportunity to apply for a free visa to travel to Bharat. The official start date of the program will be announced later.

The standard cost of a visa

If you fail to participate in the program, you can apply for a paid entry permit. To do this, you must pay a fee, which varies depending on the type of visa: single-entry, double-entry or multiple-entry (multivisa).

There is also a service fee of $2,9 and an additional fee for registration through the visa application center of $2,5. The total cost for single entry to India will be $44, for double entry and exit – $93, and for multiple visits – $122. Payment can be made in cash, by debit card or by bank transfer.
