Passport of Mexico

Before gaining independence in 1821, Mexico was a Spanish colony. Based on this historical fact, individuals with a Mexican passport can apply for citizenship in Spain and the European Union. To do so, they need to reside in any Spanish city for 2 years as a resident. Mexican passport holders are granted visa-free access to 154 countries. Mexicans can also access educational and medical services for free provided they have state insurance. The passport is issued in the form of a dark green booklet with the state emblem in the central part. Below it is the word "Pasaporte" and a biometric symbol. The name of the country is given above the emblem.
