Hungary is a small country located in the centre of Europe. In terms of living standards, the country does not occupy the leading position in the EU, which is due to economic reasons occurring in different time periods. Rising tax rates, depreciation of the national currency, social stratification of society and unemployment are problems that started to decrease only after the Hungarian state joined the EU (2004). The country does not offer the highest salaries and social benefits compared to other EU member states, but local authorities strive to develop the national economy through tourism (including medical tourism) and attracting business investments.
